With each passing year, advancements in technology are giving medical professionals and patients a chance to catch breast cancer earlier. "When I first did mammograms, there was no such thing as ultrasounds" says Patty Perrone, manager at the Greenwich Hospital Breast Center, "we weren't screening, we were just detecting." Ultrasound is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to get a picture of an area of the body. In terms of detecting breast cancer, ultrasound imaging can help a technician or physician better distinguish an abnormality to assess whether it is a tumor or a cyst, for instance |
